May Bank Holiday Hours Published
We have an 8-person Iglu shaped sauna with a wood-burning stove, as well as two cold-plunge barrels. We also have 4 changing room cubicles, a set of lockers for your personal items and two cold showers for use before plunging. We have an outdoor bench to sit on if you'd prefer to come back to temperature slowly.
Our cold-plunges are not the refrigerated kind that reach 4°C, they are simply cold water baths that average around 7-8°C, though this varies seasonally. We are happy to prepare some extra ice for you but would ask you to please request it the day before your booking to guarantee we have made enough.
The short answer is that sauna use is good for most people. We'd love to challenge the perception that saunas are only for young athletes, especially because the results from Finnish studies about the benefits for things like Alzheimer's and Dementia are so promising, not to mention the positive impact on cardiovascular health. It's best to exercise caution if you have an underlying condition, have recently had a heart attack or take blood pressure medication - often sauna use is not contraindicated but it's still best to ask your doctor first.
We also accept under 16's so long as they are accompanied by an adult and keep in mind that they may need shorter intervals in the sauna. Almost anyone can benefit from sauna use in some way so if you're curious feel free to stop by while we are open and we will try to answer any questions you might have.
We recommend a swimsuit because anyone who is using the cold plunge will obviously be getting wet, but it's not mandatory. We do recommend a change of clothes for after the sauna as you will inevitably sweat, but if you are uncomfortable in a swimsuit it is possible to wear something light (running shorts and a tank top for example) or use a towel for coverage. Restrictive or heavy clothing would be quite uncomfortable, but light sportswear can work. If you're plunging, just make sure to bring something you don't mind getting wet. This is not a nude sauna, and as such you must be appropriately covered at all times outside of the changing rooms or you will not be allowed to complete your session and won't be refunded.
Logistically, we need a few hours to light the fire and get the sauna up to temperature, so we require this minimum notice to ensure the sauna will be hot enough for you. If there are others booked into the slot you wanted but there is still space we may be able to take you as a walk-in so it's always ok to send us a quick email or instagram message to check!
We do, but only under certain circumstances. As mentioned above, the sauna takes about an hour to heat up so we can't really accept you on short notice unless it's already hot. This means that we can take walk-ins in the event that the upcoming slot has remaining spaces, and that there has been at least one booking in the slot preceding the one you want. In short, if we are open and the sauna is already hot but not full, we can take you and accept card payments on arrival.
We don't like to waste energy, and we are lucky enough to live very nearby to our location. As a result, we don't necessarily have to keep the fire going all day and in the event that our first booking is later in the day, or we have a large gap between slots we will close up to save time and fuel. This would be one of the circumstances where a walk-in session is unavailable. The easiest way to make absolutely sure we have availability for you is to book with us online at least an hour in advance.
This varies quite a bit depending on things like weather conditions, firewood used and previous customer requests. Normally, we aim for a temperature of at least 85°C, averaging at between 90°C and 95°C as this suits most people well. We have managed to accomplish temperatures of 110°C before at the request of certain groups but we can only do this for full-house bookings, as obviously this can be very uncomfortable for anyone that you are sharing with. If you are finding the sauna too hot to use, it's fine to open the door so long as everyone in your slot is in agreement.
Yes, this is a dry sauna and average humidity levels are around 8% while in operation. We do provide a bucket and ladle for pouring water over the stones on the stove if you'd like to introduce more moisture during your session. Adding water may make the sauna feel temporarily hotter but actually reduces the temperature.
Yes, we allow the addition of essential oils to the sauna bucket as a general rule, but we would ask you to please check with anyone sharing your session before adding them in case of allergies.
We would also ask that you add essential oils only to the water in the sauna bucket and refrain from dropping neat oil onto the sauna stones.
We allow the use of a sauna whisk, but only in the case that you've booked a Full-House session so as to avoid any possible disturbance to other customers.
